1998 Goodwill GamesLocation-Nassau Coliseum, Uniondale, New York, USA Date-July 29 - July 31 Review- Elena and Anton hit their short program to "Swan Lake" perfectly. First, both landed the side-by-side triple toe loops solidly. Next came a HUGE double twist, lots of height, followed by side-by-side camel into sit spins, a footwork sequence, a back press lift (flipping dismount), and a spiral sequence. The program concluded with a great twice-around back outisde death spiral and a pair combination spin. The marks for technical merit were 5.7's and 5.8's, while the presentation scores ranged from 5.8 to 5.9. Elena and Anton were the first of seven pairs to skate; had they skated earlier, the marks would have been even higher. Nevertheless, they were in first place after the short program. In second place were B&S's training partners, Oksana Kazakova and Artur Dmitriev. They also hit SBS triple toe loops (Oksana was slightly forward on the landing), but were placed behind B&S because of Artur's poor extension on his spiral, a small unison problem on a spin, and a less than perfect death spiral. The Chinese pair of Xue Shen and Hongbo Zhao were in third. The long program was a different story. B&S did not look as relaxed as
they did in the short program. Elena doubled her triple toe loop,
while Anton landed sloppily. The throw triple salchow was nice,
but Elena stepped out of the throw triple loop. B&S also had a
unison problem on their side-by-side spins. However, they
still managed to remain in first place due to lackluster
performances by Kazakova & Dmitriev and Shen & Zhao. Here are the
