Elena and Anton have been assigned to Skate America, Cup of Russia, and NHK Trophy. Competition previews:

SKATE AMERICA

  • Elena Berezhnaya & Anton Sikharulidze (RUS)
  • Sarah Abitbol & Stephane Bernadis (FRA)
  • Kristy Sargeant & Kris Wirtz (CAN)
  • Marina Khalturina & Andrei Kroukov (KZK)
  • Victoria Maksuta & Vladislav Zhovnirsky (RUS)
  • Danielle Hartsell & Steve Hartsell (USA)
  • Kyoko Ina & John Zimmerman (USA)
  • Tiffany Stiegler & Johnnie Stiegler (USA)

B&S's biggest competition will probably come from Abitbol and Bernadis of France and Canada's Sargeant and Wirtz. The American pair of Ina and Zimmerman also have a good chance to medal, but their partnership is very new (They began skating together as of April or May after Ina split with Jason Dungjen and Zimmerman split with Stephanie Stiegler).

CUP OF RUSSIA
  • Elena Berezhnaya & Anton Sikharulidze (RUS)
  • Xue Shen & Hongbo Zhao (CHN)
  • Dorota Zagorska & Mariusz Siudek (POL)
  • Nadia Micallef & Bruno Marcotte (CAN)
  • Heather Allebach & Matthew Evers (USA)
  • Tatiana Totmjanina & Maksim Marinin (RUS)
  • Mariana Kautz & Norman Jeschke (GER)
  • Elaine Asanaki & Alcuin Schulten (GRE)

The powerful Chinese pair of Shen and Zhao as well as Zagorska and Siudek of Poland have been rapidly climbing in the rankings and will definitely challenge B&S for the gold. The two pairs placed 4th and 3rd respectively at the recent Goodwill Games behind B&S and teammates Kazakova and Dmitriev, and are looking to improve their standings. Shen and Zhao are very strong technically with huge throws and twists, but lack in the area of artistry. Zagorska and Siudek are good technically and lacking artistically like the Chinese pair, but they have less consistency than Shen & Zhao and Elena and Anton.

NHK TROPHY
  • Elena Berezhnaya & Anton Sikharulidze (RUS)
  • Peggy Schwarz & Mirko Muller (GER)
  • Xue Shen & Hongbo Zhao (CHN)
  • Marina Khalturina & Andrei Kroukov (KZK)
  • Danielle Hartsell & Steve Hartsell (USA)
  • Evgeniya Filonenko & Igor Marchenko (UKR)
  • Inga Rodionova & Alexandr Anishenko (AZE)
  • Marie-Claude Savard Gagnon & Luc Bradet (CAN)
  • Japanese pair not confirmed

Again, Shen & Zhao will be tough competition for Elena and Anton. Schwarz & Muller of Germany, Savard Gagnon and Bradet of Canada, and the pairs from Ukraine and Kazakhstan will also be in the hunt for a medal.

Have you noticed that Elena and Anton haven't appeared on recent Champions on Ice shows? That's because they have taken a short break from the tour in order to prepare programs for next season. Right now they are training in Simsbury, Connecticut. Elena and Anton are planning to rejoin the tour on June 27. Can't wait to see what new programs they come up with :)
